Case Study: Redesigning the Virtual Healthcare Workspace During a Pandemic

 Overnight, the Collaborative Media department and the myriad of teleconferencing, streaming, hosting and remote work tools it provides became critical to the ongoing operation of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system. By necessity we created a hierarchy of failure to honestly determine which elements were critical and which could be abandoned. This session will share how the department structured a workflow that anticipates redundancies becoming necessities, and embraced an esprit de corps beyond just colleagues and healthcare workers.
Two cases will be discussed that feature different success criteria and different catastrophic failure criteria: First, a high visibility live-streamed Harvard Medical Grands Rounds presentation and interview with NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, and second, an international streamed live surgery with concurrent procedures between Brigham & Women's, John Hopkins, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Sao Paulo Hospital and UC Irvine Medical Center.
